“Good data quality ensures that that your items continue to appear on Google Shopping. It is critical to providing a good user experience and return on your investment.”

These are the exact words from the Google Merchant Center Dashboard page. But what exactly is “good data quality”? You have to know, because failure to meet their quality requirements can cause your feed to be disallowed. And when that happens, you have to find out what you did wrong and fix your mistake so you can export your OpenCart feed to Google Shopping.

Finding the Problems

Fortunately, with Google Product Feed, finding problems is not so hard. But that doesn’t mean there’s no risk of being banned. If your products do get  disallowed here are steps you can take to correct your mistakes.

  1. First you’ll need to find out just why your feed has been disallowed. You’ll have to go to your Google Merchant Center Dashboard page. At the bottom right corner there’s an overview of the error types involved.

  2. There’s also a link for “Data quality details” which you should click to get more details.

  3. The link gives you a list of the critical errors, all of which you have to fix (they’re not exaggerating when they say these errors are “critical”). You should click on the “learn more” link, and you also need to click the “download” link.

  4. There’s also a list of suggested optimizations, and it’s highly recommended that you follow these suggestions.

Solving the Problems

Now that you have an idea of what the problems are, you can then take steps in fixing them. You have to check the Google guidelines again, and this can take a while. These guidelines are lengthy, and they are exacting too. The smallest detail is important. Google often comes with new updates, and you must check those out so that you can confirm that you’re in full compliance.

Then you can check the troubleshooting guide that comes with the Google Product Feed. Check to see if your other extensions are affecting it, and make sure that you consult the troubleshooting guides.

Problems with Uploaded Feeds

Even when you’ve uploaded your feed successfully, you can still get the “0 of (number of items) inserted” message. To fix this problem, you have to go to the “data feeds” part in your Google Merchant Center Dashboard.

On the left side of the page, you can click the “view errors” and that takes you to the Status Summary. You’ll then get a list of errors and warnings. The errors are the reasons why your items were not accepted, and the warnings are possible reasons for the problems.

There are several possible mistakes. The most common mistake is that you don’t have the shipping and tax information. That’s because Product Feed extension does not pull this information from your OpenCart database. You have to set these attributes within your Google Merchant Centre account.

Click on “learn more” and you’ll find the error you have to fix.
